It's no secret that I am a fan of Michelle Obama. She was the one who made me sit up and take notice of Barack Obama's campaign. Before she caught my attention, I thought he was little more than the Democrats' flavor of the month. But she's getting vilified in the press, and by people who don't like it when a black woman speaks her mind. Hillary's supporters complain about sexism, but Michelle gets the short end of the stick when it comes to sexism and racism. There's now a blog which records all attacks on Michelle. The Michelle Obama Watch. H/T TooSense.

I may be off base here but I don't think so. Honestly, I think at least part of the guff that Michelle Obama receives is a reaction to her appearance. She's almost but not quite attractive.

I know people may view that as shallow. It is. It is true, though, that people who are considered attractive get a pass whereas people who aren't tend not to.

Aside from that, Michelle Obama is a bit too candid. Some things are better left unsaid no matter who you are. She still has time to learn that.

Jam- she really is quite fly.

LH- "almost but not quite attractive"? So what you're saying is, if she were more attractive, people would let the stuff she says go? I don't buy that at all. YOU don't find her attractive. But most comments on her appearance, from men, women, and even Stephen Colbert, indicate that people are impressed by her presence and stylishness.

What has she said that was better left unsaid? Clinton got in trouble for being candid when Bill was running for office. Theresa Heinz Kerry got in trouble for being candid when JK was running. If the alternative to being candid is acting like a wind-up doll (*ahem* Cindy McCain or Laura Bush) then I'll take candid any day.

Torrance Stephens- I surely hope Obama is a more faithful husband than King.
