Jesse's Not (That) Wrong

I know most people who hear this story aren't going to know what the context was, so I've provided video... The 'nuts' part might have been rather crude. Or, as a friend said to me over the phone: "Seriously? How emasculating. That's some antebellum, 'Strange Fruit' shit right there. Score one for the white man." But. Jesse isn't wrong about the 'talking down to black people' part. That's what Barack has been doing on his personal responsibility tour. It's one of a few things he's been doing lately as the nominee that makes me feel uncomfortable. Poor black parents know their kids aren't gonna grow up to be rappers or ballers. But they also have to work crazy hours (if they can get a job) to put food on the table. It's all about priorities, and I don't think the blacks whom Obama is encouraging to 'do right' are purposely letting things slide in their homes. Sigh. Some things are getting hard to justify right now.

Today sucks.

Tim Russert dies, and R. Kelly gets acquitted.

CHICAGO - R. Kelly was acquitted of all charges Friday after less than a day of deliberations in his child pornography trial, ending a six-year ordeal for the R&B superstar.

Kelly dabbed his face with a handkerchief and hugged each of his four attorneys after the verdict — not guilty on all 14 counts — was read. The Grammy award-winning singer had faced 15 years in prison if convicted.

Minutes later, surrounded by bodyguards, he left the courthouse without comment. Dozens of fans screamed and cheered as he climbed into a waiting SUV.

My feelings on Rihanna are well-documented (or were, on the old incarnation of this blog), so I'm sure you can imagine the serious WTF?? face I had when I saw this poster. 'Ye? Check! N*E*R*D? I thought ya'll were broken up, but sure! Lupe? SHHHYEAAAAAHHHH! (Did I mention I'm going to see him tomorrow night? I'm so effin' excited, you guys!!!) But... Rihanna? How does she fit in? Maybe they really needed a chick who was hot right now and Beyonce's tour rider was longer than everyone else's put together? And, well, Mariah is crazy. That's about all I can think of. Rih's music is slightly weird, so I can see how she fits in that way, but come on! {haterism}Unlike everyone else on that poster, she doesn't actually have a talent, and that just doesn't feel right.{/haterism} Oh well, assuming the bottom is in chronological order, I'm pretty sure I'll be going to this show... kinda late. *Note: I'm loving this poster. Very Return of the Jedi.
